Position Overview

THE DEPARTMENT OF SLAVIC LANGUAGES AND LITERATURES at the UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS seeks applicants to provide language instruction for active duty military personnel within the KU Language Training Center program. Applicants will be expected to teach a series of 4-week intensive courses to be held at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, Colorado.

- 100% - Depending on the need, teach undergraduate courses in designated area:
- Prepare for and attend all class meetings.
- Provide instruction throughout the semester under the guidance of the language program coordinator and in consultation with the senior lecturer.
- Develop assignments and lesson plans, grade assignments in a timely manner, provide students with feedback and regular information about their progress in the course, and give students clear information about how to improve their performance in the course.
- Maintain standards of excellence in teaching and in the evaluation of student performance.
- Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.

Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:
Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Russian.
Teaching experience of Russian at intermediate to advanced level.
Native or near native proficiency in English and Russian.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of current pedagogical practices, especially for adult learners.
Experience in curricular design and materials development.
